The Brave Souls The Whaler Shiraz is a top-value Barossa bargain from the renowned Barossa winemaking duo of Corey Ryan & Simon Cowham (Sons of Eden) in collaboration with notable wine industry main-stay, David Fesq.

It's made from a blend of 75% Barossa Valley and 25% Eden Valley fruit. The Barossa Valley grapes, grown on the warm western ridge's heavy red soils, bring dense, dark red berry flavours. Meanwhile, the cooler Eden Valley vineyards in Moculta and Craneford add elegance and a bright, wild berry aromatic lift. It's just really one of the best value Barossa Shiraz we've seen in a while.

This Shiraz is hand-harvested and partly destemmed with a touch of whole bunch inclusion. The fruit undergoes extended fermentation with gentle tannin extraction from pumpovers and manual plunging. The wine was matured in a mix of new and seasoned oak hogsheads for 14 months, slowly adding a delicious toasted seasoning to the dark Barossan fruit as it builds complexity and depth before bottling.

It's a fresher and more vibrant modern expression of the region and one dripping in regional character and easy drinking appeal. It has all the silky tannin and hearty, ripe, blue-fruited deliciousness you could want for the very reasonable price asked. A gorgeous, sumptuous version of Shiraz from this part of the world.

"Bright magenta-splashed crimson with aromas of juicy plum, blueberry and boysenberry fruits with hints of baking spices, violets, citrus blossom, ironstone, licorice and earth. The tannins are powdery fine, filtering down through the pure dark and black fruits. I really enjoyed the last release of this wine and it's more of the same this year. Super value again."
