The 2018 Sijnn Red is a captivating Syrah blend that embodies the pioneering spirit of Sijnn Wines.
Nestled in the remote Malgas region along the Breede River, this estate is a testament to resilience and innovation, producing exceptional wines in challenging conditions. This Syrah-dominant blend includes Trincadeira, Cabernet Sauvignon, Mourvedre, and Touriga Nacional, all grown as bush vines in stony, low-vigour soils.
Handpicked and meticulously sorted, the grapes undergo natural fermentation, with the Syrah and Trincadeira retaining about 10% whole bunches. The wine is aged for 22 months in a mix of 225L and 700L French oak barrels, 20% of which are new.
The nose offers an enticing bouquet of red berries, lavender, thyme, and rosemary. The palate is rich and full-bodied, showcasing dark spices, chocolate, and a hint of charcuterie. It is elegantly powerful, with a vibrant acidity and firm tannins that promise longevity.
With a bit of age already this is a beautiful drink right now, or let it develop further complexity in the cellar until 2030+. This wine is a true reflection of its unique terroir and the dedication of its makers.
