The 2022 Scout Central Otago Pinot Noir offers an accessible introduction to the region’s distinctive style, from an impressive artisan producer. It’s the darker, more structured cousin to Scout's Marlborough Pinot – a wine that showcases the depth and richness Central Otago is known for.
The fruit is sourced from the Muirkirk vineyard in Bannockburn, a site with loamy soil that adds concentration and vibrancy to the wine. Hand-picked and wild-fermented with 30% whole bunches, the process is kept gentle, with just two plunges during fermentation to avoid over-extraction. The wine spends 30 days on skins before being pressed and aged in French oak, with only 10% new barrels used, allowing the fruit to shine.
In the glass, it shows a fine balance between energy and structure, with silky tannins and a focus on darker fruit notes. It sits at the lighter end of the Central Otago spectrum but doesn’t compromise on flavour or texture.
Priced to be a great value from this region, it’s a thoughtful expression from Scout Wines that captures the essence of Central Otago Pinot.
