Peter and Magali Schell continue to prove that Spinifex isn’t just about exceptional Barossa reds - their Riesling game is equally impressive. The 2024 Spinifex Riesling comes from their meticulously managed Rostein Vineyard in Eden Valley’s Flaxman Valley, where vines planted in 1956 produce fruit of incredible intensity and character.
The vineyard, perched at 475 to 495 metres above sea level, is dry-grown on lean granitic soils that naturally limit yields to less than a tonne per acre. Hand-picked fruit is crushed and pressed, with fermentation split between stainless steel tanks and seasoned 1000-litre foudres to balance freshness with texture. To retain the wine’s vibrant purity, there’s no malolactic fermentation, and it spends just four months on lees before blending.
This Riesling is an absolute stunner. Aromas of lime blossom, green apple, and crushed stone jump from the glass. The palate is zippy and fresh, bursting with citrus and white peach, underpinned by a fine, flinty minerality. A taut line of acidity carries it through to a long, mouthwatering finish.
Whether you’re a Riesling devotee or just love discovering small-batch wines with soul, the 2024 Spinifex Riesling is a must-try. Elegant, precise, and unmistakably Eden Valley - it’s a wine that leaves a lasting impression.

"Pink grapefruit, frangipani, a hint of pink guava, peach, custard apple and lots of ripe citrusy acidity. Texture is melting, rock dust and almond note fused into one sensation, soft and firm like the slate stone touch. It just feels effortlessly serious and so well composed, satisfying. Great value."
