Bryan Martin’s 2023 Ravensworth Grüner Veltliner is a fresh, small-batch return of this beloved Austrian varietal, grown in the high-altitude coolness of Tumbarumba’s Coppabella vineyard. This Grüner takes you on a sensory journey—think vibrant aromatics of spice and white flowers, a whisper of green herbs, and a burst of fresh, crisp texture. It’s bright and zesty like a Riesling or Albariño, but with a bit of Grüner’s signature peppery kick.
"A return of this great aromatic variety from Austria. In the same vein as Riesling and Albariño, Gruner has beautiful spicy, floral aromatics, retains plenty of texture and is super crisp."
- Bryan Martin
Crafted with Ravensworth’s typical attention to detail, the grapes were left on skins for a few days before a gentle press to barrel, where they spent nearly a year in 500-litre puncheons. This careful élevage gives the wine a lovely mouthfeel and complexity without losing that pure, racy acidity. Texturally, it's not too dissimilar from Chardonnay but obviously with the distinct Gruner thumbprint.
2023 was a bit of a rollercoaster—late bud burst, plenty of spring rain, and a temperamental summer that finally settled down just in time for harvest. It's a wine that’s ripe with flavour and crisp in structure. Enjoy it now for its refreshing zip, or tuck it away for up to 7 years to let the flavours deepen. Only 48 dozen produced.
