This one’s been a long time coming. A decade ago, Brendan and Laura Carter teamed up with Peter Godden and his Talc Hill Vineyard in Gumeracha—an absolute passion project aimed at producing Australia’s finest Nebbiolo.
Fast forward ten years of hand-picking and relentless dedication to the site, and we’ve got the 2022 ‘Gumeracha’ Nebbiolo, a realisation of the Carter's earliest Italian-inspired winemaking dreams.
Crafted from 10 different Nebbiolo clones (with a cheeky 5% Barbera thrown into the mix), this wine is born from the unique calcareous clay soils of an actual talc mine. It's a Nebbiolo that’s as serious as they come. It’s elegant yet powerful, offering layers of savoury complexity, with subtle floral notes and that trademark fine tannin structure.
With only 100 bottles produced, this is the Carters’ pièce de résistance—Nebbiolo done their way, from a vineyard they’ve nurtured for a decade. For fans of Italy’s Piedmont wines, this is a new Australian contender to savour.
"(This fruit) graced the original Truffle Hound, Exocarpus, Pastafarian - but in 2022 - the fruit was such a high quality, and in such tiny amounts - we thought it best to keep aside, just to see what extra elevage could achieve. Achieve, it did. Our first release of 'Gumeracha'. An Australian Nebbiolo we're proud of, and a culmination of a decade of hard work."
