Jane Eyre has spent the better part of two decades honing her reputation as one of the most quietly brilliant Pinot Noir makers around. With an address book full of Burgundy’s great vineyard names, it’s easy to forget that Jane’s wine-loving roots lie right here in Victoria.

Fruit for this cuvée comes from the Syme on Yarra vineyard in the cooler, elevated reaches of the Upper Yarra. It’s a gentle, unhurried approach in the cellar: wild fermentation with 20% whole bunches, ageing in French oak (20% new), and 10 months on lees. There’s restraint and refinement throughout, in line with Jane’s featherlight touch and preference for subtlety over swagger.

The wine opens with lifted aromas of strawberry leaf, raspberry, blood orange and violets. It’s delicate and perfumed - elegant without being precious. The palate is seamless and fine-boned, with red fruit and spice gliding over a quiet lattice of tannin. There’s a chalky, mineral edge and gentle grip that speaks to the vineyard’s elevation and the sensitive winemaking behind it.

It’s the most savoury and nuanced of Jane’s three Aussie Pinot Noirs - a wine for those who like their Pinot unforced and graceful.

95 points
"This is the most compressed of the Australian pinot trio, playing a little more savoury presently. Sour cherries, cranberries, lightly earthy with brown spices, the tannins reinforcing the savoury impression. Like the other two wines in this release, that balance of refined fruit purity and natural structure is artfully handled, the extraction à point. This just needs a little longer to show all its charms."
