The 2023 Henschke Henry’s Seven is a tribute to the pioneering spirit of Henry Evans, who planted the first seven acres of vineyard at Keyneton in the Eden Valley back in 1853. This blend of Shiraz, Grenache, Mataro, and a touch of co-fermented Viognier is a testament to that history, capturing the elegance and complexity that the region is famous for.
This vintage shines with 81% Shiraz, bringing luscious dark fruits and structure, while 11% Grenache adds a juicy red-fruit lift, and 6% Mataro brings earthy, savoury notes. The 2% Viognier, co-fermented with the Shiraz, enhances the wine’s aromatics with floral and spice nuances. It’s matured in 100% seasoned French oak for eight months, letting the vibrant fruit character take centre stage without being overshadowed by heavy oak influence.
Bright and voluptuous, this wine is all about balance—rich in flavour yet smooth, with soft tannins and a long, luxurious finish. Perfect for drinking now, but with 15+ years of cellaring potential, it will reward those patient enough to let it age. For a wine that offers both history and modern winemaking finesse, the 2023 Henry’s Seven delivers exceptional value and a delicious glimpse into the heritage of the Barossa and Eden Valley regions.

"Always one of the most enjoyable and pleasing wines from the annual Henschke portfolio release. Well, it is for me from the time I tasted the earliest examples more years ago than I care to remember. A combination of Shiraz, Grenache and Mataro with a smidgeon of the aromatic Viognier coming to play on the nose and then a little on the palate. It’s typically bright and spicy with plush smooth and supple medium-bodied fruit flavours. Juicy and delicious." - Ray Jordan (Wine Pilot)"

"A delicious blend. Spicy and flecked with black pepper, it shows a core of pure satsuma plum, black cherry and black berry fruits with hints of star anise, violets and roasting meats. Supple and fleshy and instantly appealing, finishing stony and savoury. Very moreish. Drink by 2032."
