The Shiraz By Farr is a Shiraz made like a Pinot Noir.
This is from vines planted in 1994 as part of Gary Farr's original plantings. In most vintages, a small amount of Viognier is either co-fermented or back-blended to enhance fragrance and texture.
The grapes were hand-picked, with a portion of the bunches left intact during fermentation to enhance the wine's structure and complexity. A small percentage of Viognier is often co-fermented, adding an intriguing layer of fragrance and texture. The wine spent 18 months maturing in French oak, with just enough new oak to impart subtlety without overpowering the natural character of the fruit.
On the nose, expect an enticing mix of dense plum, black cherry, and black olive, spiced with white pepper and a hint of chocolate. The palate offers a seamless blend of these flavours, with a creamy texture and a lively acidity that invites another sip.
Silky, slippery and spicy, this is a wonderful expression of Shiraz from a great Australian vineyard.

"Deep and bright red-purple hue; earthy savoury pepper/spice and dried-herb aromas, the palate intense and brightly focused, driving and long, with great depth of cool-grown shiraz flavour and tremendous elegance. Fruit sweetness is deep in the core and this is balanced beautifully by well-judged tannins. An outstanding shiraz and a gorgeous drink."

"I’m often asked who makes the best shiraz in Australia. I always include By Farr in my answer. This 2022 release continues an incredible run of quality shiraz from this estate. The pepper spice and mezcal notes here are clear, as is the pure, sound, silken deliciousness of the fruit, though ultimately it’s the length of the palate that really distinguishes it. This wine is sweet, savoury, nutty and more, the Campari-like herb notes of the aftertaste a beautiful way to exit."
