Luciano Sandrone farms an organic vineyard in Valmaggiore in Roero, just to the north of Barolo itself, and this is their source for a high-toned, exceptional Nebbiolo that would turn heads even it were bottled as Barolo.
It's a spectacular, amphitheatre vineyard, very densely planted, and with more limestone than the clay-heavy soils to the south.
Layered and powerful for sure, but with a line of limestone tension running through it, and a mineral, stoney feel to the finish.
Best drunk in 5-10 years but lavishly enjoyable now if you're feeling frivolous.
