Mayford only grows one white grape, and they make it count. Their cult-favourite Chardonnay is big on flavour, beautifully textured, and unapologetically a wine for people who actually like Chardonnay.
The long, cool 2023 season let the fruit ripen slowly, locking in serious flavour and tension. Hand-picked in small batches, whole-bunch pressed, and sent to French oak (25% new) for a wild ferment, it then spent 11 months on lees with full malo, building that rich, layered palate.
It smells like a dream - citrus blossom, yellow peach, toasted nuts, beeswax, and a flash of flinty smoke. The palate is lush but lively, balancing weight with fresh acidity and a finish that just keeps rolling.
Silky, powerful, built to age - but dangerously easy to drink right now.

"A stunning chardonnay by any measure. Upfront and peachy, lemony bright with white flowers, it's a quiet assassin with a rich undertow of complex fruit waiting to be fully explored with time. Well-composed stone fruits, grapefruit, lime zest, nougat and mealy notes, grilled nuts and spiced pears mesh seamlessly, irresistibly on the palate. Alpine Valleys acidity sizzles, adding a touch of brilliant brightness."
