2023 Lamoresca Nerocapitano

The 2023 Lamoresca Nerocapitano is a pure expression of Frappato, the local hero grape of southeast Sicily, known in Filippo Rizzo’s village as “Nerocapitano.” Grown at 430 metres above sea level on clay and limestone soils, this is Frappato at its most vibrant and engaging—light, lively, and bursting with personality.

The winemaking is as hands-off as it gets. The grapes are fermented on skins for two weeks without temperature control, followed by eight months in concrete tanks. No sulphur is added at any stage, allowing the fruit’s natural brightness and energy to shine. This minimalist approach highlights the variety’s hallmark flavours of red berries and herbs, underpinned by a subtle savoury streak.

Nerocapitano is a wine that speaks of its Mediterranean roots, balancing sun-kissed fruit with a breezy, floral lift. It’s nimble and refreshing, perfect for warm-weather drinking, yet has enough complexity to keep things interesting.
