If Three Wishes is the powerhouse of the Woodlawn Pinots, then Waverley is the quiet achiever - all finesse, detail, and understated elegance. This tiny, low-yielding vineyard east of Launceston barely produced two tonnes per hectare in 2022, but the fruit that did come off was perfectly formed, intense, and bursting with freshness.
This site is a slow ripener, thanks to its cooler temperatures and mountain air influence, creating Pinots with exceptional tension and purity. Ricky included 25% whole bunches to enhance the structure, and the wine was pressed early to finish fermentation in second-use barriques, bringing a silky, ethereal texture to the final wine.
There’s a quiet confidence about this Pinot. It doesn’t shout—it pulls you in. Delicate yet deep, it opens with aromas of redcurrant, wild strawberry, rose petals, and damp earth, before gliding across the palate with pure, crystalline red fruit, a fine tannin frame, and a finish that lingers with mineral freshness.
This is Tasmanian Pinot at its most refined, and a benchmark release from Tassie Pinot gun, Ricky Evans.
