Ribolla Gialla is the most hallowed of grapes in the Friuli region and here, under the careful guiding hands of Sasa Radikon, it produces the most intense and complex of the Blue Label Radikon wines.
It's deeply coloured, with a golden/red-ish hue, and is right at the borderline of the most extreme examples of skin contact wines on the planet.
It's only four months on skins for this wine, however, the continual hand plunging done in the cellar sees a serious amount of extraction of both colour and tannin occur over that time.
Close your eyes and it's more akin to a red wine in structure and weight.
A curiosity and not recommended for those unfamiliar with skin-macerated white wines. Only small amount available in Australia and sure to fly quickly.
"Radikon’s wines, together with neighbour and erstwhile colleague Joško Gravner, achieved a remarkable consistency and character with their slightly wild, deep, autumnal flavours and beguiling complexity."
- Simon Woolf (Decanter)
"It’s a remarkable site, fit snug into the typical rolling hills and dales of the region, tended daily by hand to ensure greatest health of fruit and optimum (low) yield. A family affair where son Sasa and father Stanko ebb and flow from winery to vineyard and back again."
- Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)
